A Travian Addict…Is he?

My eldest son is so fond of computer games that he seldom wink his eyes when already in front of his computer.  I noticed this when I caught him still in front of the computer even during the wee hours of the morning.

Took a glimpse

Knowing his strong character, I secretly went near him to take a glimpse of what was he doing at such an odd hours. I was so surprised.

Travian addict

My son was playing Travian to the extent of only leaving the computer just to pee.  Uuppssss how’s that again?

What is this game called Travian?

Since I don’t want to disturb his concentration, I searched and came up with this. Travian is a  successful game of  German origin.  Today, it is considered as one successful computer game with more than 3 million members.

Why become addict?

This really surprised me. Why  this game made my son “addict”?  I continued my search and come up with this good explanation.

The game starts with the user as a leader of a small village.  A waiting time to start build the village to gain enough resources and develop a stronghold of armies with complete army amenities needed to protect the village’s constituents.

Now I understand

After reading the concept of this game called Travian,  I know now why my son seems to be addicted, and never leave his eyes away from the computer screen.  He is only protecting his village from attackers from all users around the globe.

Like our leaders

If only our leaders today act like the village chief in this computer game, I don’t think war will emerge.

Now, is my son a Travian addict?  Only he can tell.

Nose bleeding as a sign of hypertension

“Yolly, what is this?”, the frantic voiced I heard pass 2:00am of August 22, 2008. I saw my father holding his bloodied nose as more traces of fresh blood was visible on the floor. I pretended to be calm dealing with such an emergency. I let him sit and dabbed clean his bloodied nose as I scanned our old medical book for information. I told him to pinch his nose against the bones of his face using his thumb and index finger, then lean slightly with his head tilted forward. Teasing him about his failure to take an early morning bath eased the panicked in his eyes. She took a bath on that unpleasantly cold morning but the warm water I prepared thwarted the chilling effect. I did not tell him though that nose bleeding is also one sign of hypertension.

Insisting on manning his store instead of taking some rest, he opened at 6:35am. By 8:15am, my son informed me about the incessant bleeding again of my father’s nose. As I kept my cool telling my sister Liza, she panicked and immediately went into my house to check our father’s blood pressure. The 80 over 100 reading was enough to relieved us.

With Liza in tow, my father consulted a doctor on August 26. Liza shouldered the doctor’s fee but left me the cost of the laboratory tests for ECG, urinalysis, CBC and X-ray. My financial difficulty was overshadowed by God’s help, thus the successful laboratory test on August 30, 2008.

My father is now 74 years old and counting. Although he can’t control his anger sometimes, this incident taught us to be more careful with our own health, and the importance of saving for the “rainy days”.

Head lice. What is this?

My special daughter keeps on scratching her head to the extent of pulling her hair just to satisfy the itch.  This is not new to me because I  experienced this too. And what exactly causes this rigid scratching?  Nothing except – Head lice
What is head lice?

These are tiny parasites that only thrive on the heads of people.  If frequently occurring, a person is already infected with Pediculosis or  head lice.

Candidates of infection

Any body who comes in contact with an infected person, his clothing, and belongings. Preschoolers are the most affected by this tiny but powerful creatures.

To the rescue

Mother’s instinct – I brush his head using fine comb. And voila, the tiny creatures get caught and “death” befall them.

My very first (upppss), second blog

Uppsss…I was supposed to start blogging wayback 2008. I have one but was hampered because of some unavoidable circumstances.  I might just as well copy all the entries I made and transfer it here.

Anyway, what is this wordpress blog – aside from being free (at first maybe)? Hmmm…got to go deeper on the how’s and why’s: in short FAQ.  Upss it’s almost 12:00midnight. Got to go. I’ll continue my writing maybe tomorrow (if time permits). I am so very busy that I only have 2 to 3 hours of sleep.  Well got to start using that 2 to 3 hours privilege.

Got to go.

Can’t handle stress?

I’ve been feasted with disease called stress. Another occurrence last night. As I was very busy attending to my home based work, my husband kept on rumbling about me working during odd hours. And since it’s hard to work with that kind of “scene” I told my daughter to keep an eye on the computer and text me if the connection is restored.

If something untoward happens, I will blame no one but my husband. And there goes my word.  My daughter told me the following day that my employer  sense something “fishy” about the presence of “somebody”  (not me). Oh my, I confronted my husband and told him how to address this problem?  He just shrugged it off as if nothing happens.

And since the harm has been done, I thought of solving this as soon as possible.  I called my employer to air my side. I felt his being upset that I toned down my plea to explain.  I emailed him my explanation instead.

Thought I can’t do anything to eased his “anger”, I conditioned myself to accept the inevitable.

Stress anyone? Hmmm..I got so many.
