Mung Beans Soup Three Times A Day!

April 5, 2013 Leave a comment

growing mung beansFor breakfast, lunch and dinner mung beans soup is the centerpiece of my family’s dining table.

Not that we have no other choice for a dish, but mung beans soup has captured the hearts of my family especially my eldest son, (not to forget) my 78 years old father. I usually cooked the beans with veggies, meat (pork, beef or chicken), fresh or dried fish or just plain.

Mung beans, also called Pinyin in Chinese and Maash in Hebrew are legumes that originate in China some 2000 years ago. These beans are popular in Asia.

Just like the other legumes, mung beans are healthy. They are rich in proteins, lecithin and zinc. The alphabets of vitamins – A, B, C, D, E, K, folic acid, iron, potassium, calcium, phosphorous, magnesium are in the beans too. .

These almost sodium-free beans not only help lower blood cholesterol levels, the Phytoestrogens in them also fight skin aging. Hmm, does this answers why I look younger than my age?

Oh, it’s lunch time – mung beans soup again? Yep, but there’s another dish on the sidelines.

Where is Kawasan Waterfalls? An Unforgettable Charm in Matutinao, Badian, Cebu

April 21, 2012 Leave a comment

where is kawasan waterfalls“Let’s go to Kawasan!” said Jennifer (the youngest daughter of my auntie).

In my years of stay in Cebu, I haven’t gone to Kawasan. So, I shortened the list (actually, there is no list – I don’t have the luxury to spend vacation out of town. It’s just a product of my (my kids, too) imagination.

Kawasan is one of Cebu’s prides, a haven for waterfalls of natural spring water lovers.

This clear as crystal waterfall is located in the mountains of Barangay Matutinao, Badian, 130 kilometers southwest of Cebu City – a three hour bus drive.

where is kawasan waterfallsI rented an eighteen seater multicab (a multivan.) Take note, the multivan has a maximum load of 18 passengers…18 SLIM passengers.

And since we “carry” some extras…(shhh…a kilo or two stored fats) do you think we can give our legs a break during the four hour ride?

where is kawasan waterfallsIt’s a tough ride, but the different jaw-dropping vistas somehow ease our leg cramps. READ THE COMPLETE STORY OF OUR KAWASAN ESCAPADE!

4 Not So Easy, Not So Hard Tips on How Not to Lose Your Temper and What to Do When You Lose It

March 9, 2012 2 comments

When you’re deprived of sleep, child throws a tantrum even at the smallest things, then she falls on the floor if she can’t get what she wants; your teen daughter knows how to wear make-up but can’t tidy her own space, admit it: you are about to lose your temper and to scream (at the top of your lungs) is a relief. Lo and behold, I forgive you for forgetting that patience is a virtue.

Hey, no need to call 911 just yet. Follow these tips to tame the tiger in you:

1. Cool Off:

Fires are burning hotter, cool down the area by pouring cool water over. You should do the same when dealing with difficult children or upsetting situation – don’t say a word (that word may be the “killing sword”), back off, proceed to take a shower, or go for a walk…a long walk – a mile or two is a great start (who knows, you’ll soon end up a contender for a walkathon).

Cool off by using a positive attitude instead of a punitive one. Easier said than done, I know. But hey, when do you think is the right time to mentally stop before your anger gets the best of you?

2. Express Regret:

Let me tell you a story. I once screamed my rage (I remembered it reaching the top of Mt. Everest) because my son did not heed my words. I used bad words like st&*^%*, du&*^, da^%$#, idi*^&%$ and pu&^%$#*: those words can “kill”. Glad, they were not so “sharp” to make a cut.
Often, realization comes when you already hurt the feelings of others. I regret being so hard with my son and what I did was really wrong.

happy facesRemember, consequences of events whether you have little control or in control, you have to express regrets. It is appropriate for your children to deserve your sympathy after being an angry bird. Say you’re sorry, then, admit to becoming frustrated with what happened.

3. What Makes You Angry?

List down what elicits the anger. Is it when your kids bring home a low grade (lower than before?), a habit of grumbling, or lack of respect especially for older adults? Refresh your memory, the list can be simple. Just do your homework and you’ll end up getting the highest grade possible.

4. Plans are Fun to Make:

Especially if you work together with your children, plans surely would be fun to make. Write how everyone should deal with anger especially in a difficult situation. What area in the house helps cool down the feeling of anger? How about a long minute walk or a cool shower?

Remember that counting from one to eternity is still a good choice to die down the fire.

Parenting is real and you know that it is in no way easy. Having a plan designed to deal with anger and not losing your temper easily makes all the difference.

Are You Afraid to Resign After 19 Years of Office Work?

November 16, 2011 1 comment

how to be successful and earn millions in less than a year I am secured working eight hours (or more) a day seven days a week. It was a routine for 19 years.

After getting my children ready for school, I rushed to dress up myself and head to my office. I usually had heated debates with my husband for being late in getting our kids from school and me from work after the end of a long work period. Imagine doing this routine for straight 19 years. Not a joke huh!

It took me two years before I finally made my decision. Ceasing to work in an office after nineteen years is a mixed emotion. How can I just end the routine without securing my family finances?

Yes, I’m not financially secured during that back and forth, up and down debates of finally ending my office work career. But I still decided to take the plunge and not end up in the pit of uncertainty.

I quit my job after two years of hard thinking. I finally decided to work from home: be my boss, be with my kids and exchange flying kisses all the time.

Even though I am financially spent, I left my job with big dreams of making something remarkable out of my decision. I continued working online (my sideline before but is now my main money earner).

In no time, my hard work pays off. I started earning triple than what I was receiving monthly 19 years ago.

I am now able to pay my bills on time and no longer at the mercy of deadlines. I really believe that working from home is a wonderful blessings from Above. Gone are the days that I rushed just to be on time for work, meetings, seminars and other office responsibilities.

I’m the head of my office department…before. Now, I’m the manager of myself, managing my time – I am my boss.

Thinking of taking a big leap, too? Wait! You have to realize first that there is so much to change in your life. Think not twice but ten times ten before you gamble the future of your kids.

Remember, when we talk of personal finances, we are absolutely not on the same shoes.

HOW TO EARN YOUR FIRST MILLION IN JUST (LESS THAN) A YEAR OF
What do Mark Zuckerberg, Billy Stade, Kari Stade, Babak Farahi, Mike Domek have in common? They are the people who already pocketed millions before reaching the age of annoying discomforts: 40.

How did they earn their millions at such a young age? Have Questions? WebAnswers

There are no rules to follow nor a magic wand to wave. These people went out of their comfort zones and started to drift through life. They believe that business when combined with passion works like magic.

Do you think they will do well if they consider failure a red flag and a last-ditch attempt to recover their money is not on their radars? Of course not!

Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

In the case of workers who go to work for 8 hours (or more) a day, an absence would ruin their budget. Picture this out. Do you think these workers can ever become millionaires like Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and his pals? Yes, they can, but only in their dreams.

I once was a regular worker who works diligently from 8 to 5, sometimes more. My job was my only source of living. With my meager income, I can’t afford to go on a traditional vacation even in a nearby town.

Honestly, my salary was just enough to keep my family up to feed. I have no regrets whatsoever because my hard work has paid off. I was able to build a home for my family through PAG-IBIG (though we’re living paycheck to paycheck then)…MORE MILLION WORTH OF STORIES HERE:
